What will I learn?

Build hands-on capability across Cloud Computing, AI, Cybersecurity, Data, and Web & App Development. This programme combines computer science, programming, digital systems and business knowledge, so every graduate leaves not only qualified but industry-ready. Year One: Your first year builds a solid foundation in digital engineering through practical, collaborative project work. All courses are compulsory. Foundations of Computing and Digital Systems – Explore the core concepts of computing, digital technologies and system architecture that underpin modern software development. Digital Business Systems and User Experience – Discover how technology supports organisations while learning to design intuitive, user-focused digital experiences. Programming and Problem Solving Fundamentals – Develop coding skills and computational thinking to build reliable software applications and solve technical challenges. Professional Practice and Collaborative IT Environments – Build essential communication, teamwork and project management skills used in professional software development environments. Programming – Advance your programming capability by developing larger applications using industry-standard coding practices and software development techniques. Prototyping – Learn to rapidly design, prototype and validate digital products through iterative design and user feedback. Introduction to Computer Networks – Gain an understanding of networking concepts, infrastructure and connectivity that support modern digital systems. Database Management Systems – Learn how to design, build and manage databases that securely store, organise and retrieve information for real-world applications. Year Two: Expand your technical expertise across some of today's fastest-growing areas of technology. You'll apply your skills through practical projects while exploring artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, cloud computing, mobile development, data science and game development. All courses are compulsory. Cybersecurity and Cryptography – Learn how to identify security threats and protect digital systems using modern cybersecurity principles and encryption techniques. Introduction to Data Science – Explore data analysis, visualisation and statistical methods to uncover insights and support informed decision-making. Game Development I – Design and build interactive digital experiences while learning the foundations of game programming and development. Information Systems Analysis and Design – Analyse business requirements and design effective digital solutions that address organisational needs. Business Intelligence – Transform complex data into meaningful insights through reporting, analytics and data visualisation tools. Cloud Computing Fundamentals – Develop practical skills in cloud platforms, deployment models and scalable infrastructure used by modern organisations. Android Application Development – Design and build mobile applications using current Android development frameworks and best practices. Web Development with AI – Create responsive web applications while exploring how AI-powered tools can accelerate modern software development. Year Three: Bring together everything you've learned through advanced digital engineering topics and a major industry-focused capstone project that prepares you for professional practice. All courses are compulsory. Game Development II – Build more sophisticated interactive applications while refining advanced programming, optimisation and user experience skills. Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence – Apply machine learning models and AI techniques to develop intelligent solutions for real-world challenges. Capstone Project – Complete a major industry-focused project that showcases your technical, analytical and professional skills while solving a real-world digital engineering challenge.

Entry requirements

For international students

NCEA University Entrance (UE), or equivalent CIE/IB grades, OR equivalent qualification from an overseas secondary school or tertiary institution. All applicants will be required to demonstrate ability in art and design, mathematics and/or computing/digital technologies. Discretionary Admission: Applicants who do not meet General Admission requirements and are at least 16 (and under 20) may apply for Discretionary Admission by demonstrating significant level of achievement in Year 12, OR completion of a relevant foundation programme or tertiary qualification. All portfolios should show significant art and design skills and experience. Special Admission: If applicants do not meet General Admission requirements and are over 20, New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, and have relevant experience and skills, they may apply for Special Admission by submitting a professional portfolio and/or documented industry experience.
