What will I learn?
This course includes: Learn the principles of animation and put them into practice using 2D animation techniques - frame-by-frame, rigging, and digital character design. Have a go at film production – from planning and filming simple scenes to editing your footage into a finished piece using tools the pros use. Explore the fundamentals of graphic, web, UX, and UI design, and get hands-on experience creating posters, game interfaces, and web layouts. Pull it all together with a mini-portfolio that shows off your skills across design, animation, film, design and web. Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive the New Zealand Certificate in Digital Media and Design (Level 4). Animation: You’ll explore the foundational principles of animation through practical projects, while getting familiar with essential tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, and Animate. You’ll develop your skills in typography, concept sketching, and character design, and dive into both rigging and frame-by-frame animation. Film: This hands-on course introduces you to the design principles of film including composition, shot types, and storytelling techniques and walks you through scripting, storyboarding, and camera operation. You’ll also build confidence in editing using Adobe Premiere Pro, create motion graphics, explore basic visual effects, and gain a working knowledge of export formats and on-set safety. Design & Web: You’ll build a strong foundation in visual design principles while gaining experience with software like Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe XD, and Webflow. You’ll learn how to take ideas through a full design process - from concept to final output - with a focus on layout, typography, target audiences, and web page development. You’ll also prototype, test, and refine your designs while learning how to manage digital files. Pathways: You’ll reflect on everything you’ve learned, select your strongest pieces, make final tweaks based on feedback, and compile a professional portfolio that’s ready to share with the world.
