What will I learn?

The Diploma in Language (DipLang) is a recognised and endorsed qualification for students who wish to complete a programme of study in one of the five core languages taught in the Department of Languages and Cultures: Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish.

Entry requirements

For international students

Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Humanities) on the advice of the GDipSLT Admissions Committee.Every applicant must either be a graduate, or have obtained a teaching qualification and be able to present evidence of appropriate teaching experience acceptable to the GDipSLT Admissions Committee.Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Humanities) on the advice of the Dean, College of Education, who must be satisfied that, in accordance with Section 24 of the Education Amendment Act 2011, the applicant satisfies the minimum requirements for admission to an initial teacher education programme as sepecified by the relevant professional body.Every applicant must have:a degree (at Level 7 or above on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework) with an average grade of at least B in the final year major subject requirements for a bachelors degree (requiring papers worth at least 360 points) or in the course components for a postgraduate qualification; or,alternative qualifications or experience acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Humanities).
