What will I learn?

The Graduate Diploma in Arts offers those who hold a bachelor's degree in a major in an unrelated area the opportunity to study arts in-depth, choosing from over 30 subjects. The GradDipArts is designed for graduates seeking to qualify for entry to postgraduate qualifications in arts, to change career direction, or to extend or upgrade their existing qualifications. Film is a unique medium, in that there are so many ways to tell stories. The cultural impact and influence of cinema over the years has been huge. This subject will introduce you to the tools and techniques used in film creation. In your classes, you will analyse the structure, cinematic style, and storytelling of films from diverse genres through the lens of theory, history, and culture. Study Involve: From the silent era of film to modern day – explore the evolution of movies and filmmaking. Other topics include analysis of scenes, screenwriting, exploration of Maori identity, storytelling for children, and the French New Wave. You can minor in Cinema Studies in many UC bachelor’s degrees.
