What will I learn?

This diploma offers people who hold a bachelor's degree in a major in an unrelated area the opportunity to study science in-depth. It is designed to provide a qualification for graduates seeking to qualify for possible to postgraduate qualifications in science, change career direction, or to extend or upgrade their existing qualifications.

The GradDipSc may be awarded with Distinction.

How do I plan my degree?

Graduate Diploma in Science students are required to pass at least 120 points from Science subjects. Of these, 90 points must be at 300-level, including 60 points in a single subject.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Entry to the Graduate Diploma requires a bachelor's degree, which does not need to be in the same area of study. If you gained your qualification overseas, this will need to be assessed to ensure it is of an equivalent standard. English language requirements: IELTS academic with an average score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking; TOEFL (iBT) total minimum score of 80, with at least 19 in reading, writing and listening; TOEFL PBT with a minimum score of 550 and TWE with a minimum score of 4.5; CCEL EAP Level 2 with a minimum C+ grade; CAE or CPE minimum score of 169 with at least 162 in reading, writing, listening and speaking; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE with an overall score of 50 and no PTE communicative skills score below 42; NZCEL Level 4 - Academic endorsement.

For international students

Entry to the Graduate Diploma requires a bachelor's degree, which does not need to be in the same area of study. If you gained your qualification overseas, this will need to be assessed to ensure it is of an equivalent standard.

Acceptance will depend on the standard and relevance of previous studies. Students must be approved by the Academic Dean of Science.

Applicants must also satisfy our English language entry requirements:

  • IELTS (Academic): Minimum overall score of 6.0, with no band score lower than 5.5.
  • TOEFL (IBT): Minimum overall score of 80, with a minimum score of 19 in Reading, Listening and Writing.
  • PTE (Pearson Test of English - Academic): Overall score of 50, and no communicative skills score below 42

Undergraduate application deadline: Semester 1 (February start) by 31 October; Semester 2 (July start) by 30 April.
