What will I learn?

If you’re good with numbers and like the idea of a job where you can help small business owners achieve their business goals, then this programme is a great place to start.

This diploma is the first year of our Bachelor of Accounting (Level 7). If you do well and enjoy the courses, you’ll be able to transition easily into degree-level study or move straight into work once you’ve graduated.

You’ll gain an understanding of the general nature of business, the functions in an organisation and the critical role accountants play in the success of a business.

The skills you’ll develop in this programme will set you up to support an accountant or an accounting team, such as:

Accounting skills for small businesses, including recording transactions and preparing financial statements, budgets and tax returns
Personal skills, including problem-solving, developing and managing business relationships, managing your performance and understanding business ethics

  • Get qualified and into work quickly. This qualification provides a pathway to becoming a registered accounting technician through Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand (CA ANZ) in just one year.
  • Apply for provisional CA ANZ membership. Once you’ve graduated, you can apply for provisional membership with CA ANZ.

Become a chartered accountant with further study

This programme is the first year of our Bachelor of Accounting (Level 7) programme – it’s the qualification you’ll need to work as a chartered accountant. Once you’ve successfully completed this qualification, you’ll have the admission requirements and preparedness to take on the higher-level study.

Entry requirements

For international students

To enter this programme, you’ll need to have one of the following:

Achievement of NCEA Level 2 including:
8 Literacy credits at Level 2 or above; and
14 Numeracy credits at Level 1 or above or

An equivalent qualification. or

Successful completion of an approved qualification at Level 3 or above with a relevant pathway.

English Language Requirements: IELTS test: Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5. TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36; Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill. OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests. NZCEL - Level 4 (General) or (Employment). Language Cert - B2 Communicator International ESOL Written (LRW) HIGH PASS with no less than 25/50 in each skill and Spoken (S) PASS.
