What will I learn?

At Coastland College we operate across two campuses, with each bringing its own strengths and unique aspects to College life.At our stunning Kingston Maurward campus, you can gain hands-on expertise in environmental subjects, including agriculture, horticulture, countryside management and animal welfare and science, as well as public services, in a setting deeply rooted in sustainability and practical learning. At our well connected Weymouth campus, you can study a diverse range of courses across health, digital, construction and engineering, A-Levels, creative media and many more, equipping you with the technical and academic skills to succeed in industries locally and beyond.Located on the stunning Jurassic Coast and the beautiful Dorset countryside, our campuses offer a diverse range of courses, training and CPD that cater to a wide array of interests, career paths and business needs.Together, we focus on the best interests of students, staff and employers in our local community and beyond, with industry-standard facilities, experienced teaching staff and outstanding support in a diverse, vibrant and welcoming environment. The Foundation Degree in Art and Design Practice (delivered in partnership with University of Plymouth) on our Weymouth Campus will develop skills in traditional disciplines and contemporary practices as well as exploring new media. In Year 1 (Level 4) there will be five studio based and one professional practice module.Throughout these modules there will be a choice of sub briefs which will allow students to choose a project with equal learning experiences and opportunities allowing for outcomes appropriate for personal interests and professional aspirations.Year 2 (Level 5) study is aimed at allowing students exploration and development of their personal creative practice and build upon their autonomy as practitioners. Two modules will establish a foundation for personal Art and Design practice. There is a project based module giving the opportunity to define and explore a creative project allowing the student to develop their personal studio practice. Two further modules will allow the student to identify and test their creative practice within the studio and to present their creative conclusions. The final module will enable the student the opportunity to research and develop their professional persona and to establish an appropriate network of opportunities for their creative practice.
