What will I learn?

Graphic Design and Illustration sit at the core of the visual creative industries, shaping how ideas, messages and identities are communicated across contemporary media. This course offers a rigorous introduction to the fundamental principles of design, including composition, layout, typography, colour theory, photography and illustration. You will develop both conceptual thinking and technical skill, working across a range of media, from traditional hand-rendered techniques to industry-standard digital tools. Emphasis is placed not simply on the tools themselves, but on how effectively you use them to communicate ideas with clarity, originality and purpose. Throughout the course, you will refine a critical eye for detail and gain a deeper understanding of how type, image and layout function together within professional design practice. You will respond to a variety of creative briefs that reflect the demands of the industry, producing work for print, digital platforms and emerging media. This course is designed to prepare you for progression to leading creative universities, equipping you with a strong portfolio and the adaptability required of contemporary graphic designers and illustrators working across multiple disciplines and contexts. This course prepares students for Undergraduate study in: Graphic Design, Animation, Publishing & Editorial Design, Illustration, Illustration Animation, Graphic & Media Design, Communication Design, 3D Game Design, Media Communications, Web Design, Children’s Book Illustration, Visual Communication, Concept Art, Advertising, Branding & Identity, Marketing, Design for Art Direction, Design for Branded Spaces, Visual Media
