What will I learn?

This one-year, specialist MSc combines rigorous study of Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods with the biomedical and healthcare questions that drive modern clinical practice and research. Taught at UCL, an international leader in artificial intelligence and medical research, graduates will develop the technical and domain expertise needed in a rapidly expanding field. UCL Computer Science, renowned for its pioneering role in AI, offers an interdisciplinary approach that connects you with experts across biomedical, clinical, social sciences, and humanities fields. Studying in London, recognised as the best city in the world to study AI, further enriches your learning experience. From clinical diagnosis and treatment optimisation to drug discovery and resource allocation, AI is transforming the delivery of healthcare worldwide. You will learn from biomedical scientists, clinicians, and industry practitioners who specialise in applying artificial intelligence across the healthcare spectrum. Their perspectives will help you translate technical methods into clinically meaningful solutions. A central element of the programme is the individual project, during which you will collaborate with healthcare stakeholders, such as hospital departments, research labs, or health-technology companies, on pressing clinical or public health questions. This experience teaches you to apply AI techniques in a real-world setting, develop practical problem-solving skills, and contribute tangible value to patient care and biomedical research. Graduates are prepared for technical roles in clinical data science, biotechnology, health technology start-ups, or doctoral research. This programme is ideal for you if you are a graduate in computer science, mathematics, statistics, physical or life sciences, medical sciences, or engineering. It suits those who enjoy problem-solving and are eager to design and deploy AI solutions to transform medical care and improve patient outcomes.
