Biomedical Science is the integrative scientific study of biological issues related to the support of the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions that affect people's quality of life. It is a well-recognised, evidence inform and valued profession that encompasses a holistic and life-span approach to the provision of diagnostic, assessment and intervention.

This course explores the theoretical and practical aspects of Clinical Microbiology within the context of diagnostic and investigative discipline of Biomedical Science. We use an integrated learning approach that incorporates the use of self-directed learning activities and additional learning resources provided using the Canvas digital learning platform to supplement the on-campus learning experience. This innovative approach would further support the development of your learning experience alongside the delivery of key practical laboratory skills and your professional practice development. As part of your degree, you will have access to state-of-the-art facilities including the Clinical Imaging Suite at the Institute of Life Science (ILS) which overlaps the University and Singleton Hospital campuses, which features adjoined 3T MRI and high-resolution CT imaging.

You will also benefit from the close working relationship between Swansea University and the NHS in Wales which provides ideal circumstances for collaborative teaching and research. We also have strong links with the UK Research Council, Welsh Government and numerous national and international connections.

There are a number of topic areas covered within our programme that will allow you to develop and enhance your specialist knowledge of clinical biochemistry via the investigation of the function and dysfunctions of systems, organs and tissues by applying the principle clinical biochemistry concepts and skills of biochemical analysis.
