Studying Criminology at Birmingham Newman University presents an engaging journey into the realms of crime and the criminal justice system, allowing you to delve into the concept of crime. This programme gives you the chance to examine the criminal justice system’s role in detecting, punishing, and rehabilitating offenders, as well as considering the importance of the victims in the criminal justice process. Enhancing your educational experience, the course features guest lectures from a range of professional practitioners. These experts come from various roles within the criminal justice system and related agencies, providing valuable real-world context to your studies. Graduates of the Criminology programmes pursue roles within the criminal justice system, such as policing, probation services, youth justice, the prison service, revenue and customs, community development and roles within non governmental organisations that focus on crime prevention and rehabilitation.*Subject to validation. All students begin their studies on the BA (Hons) Criminology degree before having the option to choose the Criminology with Law or Criminology with Policing pathway towards the end of their first year of study. Students who complete this pathway will receive the specialist BA (Hons) Criminology with Law or BA (Hons) Criminology with Policing award at graduation.
