Course detail

Education research in Medicine and the Life Sciences is interdisciplinary and includes both positivist and interpretive methodological approaches. Within the Centre of Education of methology is determined by the nature of the research question. We also support interdisciplinary research, and this has included collaborations with medical humanities, social linguistics, sociology and the performing arts. Our doctoral students form an integral part of a supportive and growing research community. Typically, they publish papers during their doctoral studies, often co-authoring with their supervisors’ and present their work at national and international conferences. Students can apply for travel bursaries that are capped at £500. These support visits to laboratories or universities for short visits to benefit from leading expertise related to the student’s doctoral research, attend conferences and present their papers. The Centre for Doctoral Studies offer training and careers advice. This complements faculty supervision and mentoring. Students also have the opportunity to teach and this is remunerated.
