What will I learn?

From smart devices and connected homes to robotics, intelligent systems and the Internet of Things (IoT), electronic and computer engineering plays a vital role in shaping the technologies we use every day. If you are interested in understanding how electronic hardware and computer software work together, this course will help you develop the knowledge and practical skills to design, build, programme and test modern engineering systems. This degree combines electronic engineering principles with computer systems and programming. You will develop a foundation in electrical and electronic circuits, computer architecture, engineering mathematics and software development before progressing to more advanced topics in embedded systems, microprocessors, digital electronics, instrumentation, control systems and artificial intelligence.Practical engineering is central to your learning\*\*.\*\* Through laboratory activities, circuit design, simulation, programming and hands-on projects, you will gain experience in developing and testing electronic and computer-based solutions. You will explore how sensors, microcontrollers and software can be integrated to create functional systems that respond to real-world engineering challenges. As you progress, you will study technologies including the IoT, mobile applications, programmable digital electronics and intelligent systems. This will help you understand how modern connected devices are designed, controlled and developed, while strengthening your ability to work across both hardware and software.Throughout the course, you will develop analytical thinking, technical problem-solving, engineering design and professional skills. In your final year, you will undertake a substantial engineering project, providing an opportunity to investigate a specialist topic, apply your technical knowledge and demonstrate your ability to develop and evaluate an engineering solution.By graduation, you will have developed a combination of electronic engineering, computing and practical design skills relevant to careers in areas such as embedded systems engineering, electronics engineering, IoT development, computer engineering and intelligent electronic systems.**By studying at the University of Northampton, you can be sure that:**At UON, you’ll benefit from a supportive, career-focused experience designed to help you succeed.**Personalised learning**Study in small groups led by expert academics, with dedicated one-to-one support.
