The UWS Graduate Apprenticeship BEng (Hons) Engineering Design & Manufacture effectively combines university education with work-based learning.
Students attend UWS one day per week, while workplace learning makes up over a third of the degree. The programme, which is taught by expert academics, emphasises advanced design and manufacturing concepts. These include CAD, prototyping, simulation, and digital manufacturing. The programme also covers covers essential management, data analysis, and quality assurance skill-building aspects.
With a progressive approach to syllabus design, the curriculum incorporates key areas such as AI and the fusion of digital and manufacturing technologies, ensuring graduates gain real industry-relevant expertise.
Students receive dedicated support from lecturers and a work mentor both on campus and in the workplace. Additionally, the programme features minimal assessment, focusing instead on industry-led projects and practical learning to develop essential problem-solving and research skills.

The standard entry requirements include Scottish Highers with grades BCCC (90 UCAS Tariff points), plus National 5 English and Maths at Grade C or above. The minimum entry requirements are Scottish Highers with grades CCC (63 UCAS Tariff points), plus National 5 English and Maths at Grade C or above. Alternative minimum entry requirements include Scottish Highers with grades CC (42 UCAS Tariff points), plus National 5 English and Maths at Grade C or above, and successful completion of the UWS Foundation Academy, a Foundation Apprenticeship, the UWS Next Steps to University module, Top-Up, or LEAPS. Applicants may also be considered with A Levels at grades CCD (88 UCAS Tariff points), plus GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/5 or above; a full T Level with a Pass grade (A–C) (96 UCAS Tariff points), plus GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/5 or above; the Irish Leaving Certificate with grades H3H3H3H4, plus Maths and English at Ordinary Level; a Foundation Apprenticeship or Modern Apprenticeship; or an HNC/HND qualification, with the level of entry and any credit awarded subject to the content of the programme.
