What will I learn?

On this English Literature degree, you’ll engage with a rich variety of literature and/or language, spanning different historical periods and covering the full range of major literary genres, including prose, poetry, and drama. You’ll develop a deep understanding of key critical, theoretical, linguistic, and stylistic concepts, and learn how to apply scholarly skills such as bibliographic research in your studies.The course will involve close, analytical reading of texts, allowing you to explore their stylistic, expressive, formal, and rhetorical qualities. You’ll also examine the connections between literary works and other forms of cultural expression, while gaining an appreciation of the social, historical, and cultural contexts in which these texts were created, received, and disseminated. This approach will encourage you to think critically about literature and its role in shaping and reflecting society.

A typical background for an applicant will be someone who has a first degree (minimum requirement of a lower second class honours classification) in Sport or Exercise Sciences, exercise physiology, sports rehabilitation, sports therapy, physiotherapy or physical therapy.
