What will I learn?

This degree will allow you to gain practical experience and develop graphic design skills through working on variety of briefs aimed at different audiences. You’ll gain working knowledge of graphic design processes, from primary research to developing and implementing ideas and evaluating the finished design. You’ll also develop key academic skills, gaining a contextual understanding of the cultural, historical and technological influences that have shaped design and visual communication.Independent projects will give you the chance to enhance your research, planning and visual communication skills which are highly regarded by employers. Our range of optional modules will allow you to tailor your course to suit your interests. You could choose to focus on typography, information design, digital media, photography and other areas of graphic and communication design.**Specialist facilities**The School of Design offers excellent facilities and technical support for developing your creative skills. We have dedicated practice studios, workshops and specialist facilities: 3D Art & Design Studio; 2D Art & Design studios; Fashion Design studios; Knit and Weave studio; Graphic and Visual Communication studio; Photography and Film studio; Digital print studio; Laser cut studio; traditional printing studio; Design workshop; 3D workshop with 3D printing; computer clusters.The School also provides a range of other support to enhance the student experience and prepare students for the workplace: essential learning materials; essential studio and workshop materials; dedicated software (Adobe CC; PointCarre, Solid Works, Cinema 4D, Lectra, etc.); cameras and video recorder on loan; free entry to Inside/Out lecture series; compulsory field trips part of assessment; part of curriculum subscriptions (e.g. LSN, Special journals and periodicals); costs of Degree Show (infrastructure, course catalogue and exhibition set-up); external promotion (e.g. New Designer, AD&D, Graduate Fashion Week); Yorkshire Fashion Archive and Membership to the ASBCI (Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing students); Visiting Speakers, who are well known figures from industry or other institutions around the world.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants will be required to achieve a minimum of 3 subjects in Advanced Placement (AP) or SATS with grades ranging between 4 and 5 or 650 and 750. Subject specific requirements will still apply. Combinations of APs and SATS are welcomed, however where there is a Mathematics A-level requirement, applicants are advised that AP Calculus BC will be required. SATR 1650 (550 in all 3 components) (old scores) Or SATR 1290 (650 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 620 in Maths) (new scores) Or ACT 26 in English. Minimum qualifications include: IELTS (International English Language Testing System) an overall band of 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in each component skill.
