What will I learn?

The Master’s in International Accounting and Finance is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills of the fundamental principles of financial management which are relevant to global business, in order to enhance their operational effectiveness in this particular area or to serve as preparation for further study or an academic career.

The programme covers areas such as financial management within banks, and regulation and finance functions within generalist and non-finance firms such as FMCGs (consumer goods firms). The focus is on key elements of corporate finance, banking, economics, regulation, international finance, portfolio management and applied quantitative methods. The aim is to produce ethically responsible specialists who have a strong financial and banking perspective in relation to corporate activity, pension funds, investment funds and international financial markets.

Throughout the programme, there will an intensive use of the financial software packages that are most widely utilised in industry, and students will obtain advanced training in the use of these packages.

Career prospects

Our graduates regularly find careers in financial management, and the finance industry in general. The programme focuses on the key elements of corporate finance, investment management and applied quantitative finance. The aim is to produce specialists who have a strong financial perspective on corporate activity, pension fund behaviour, the economy and international financial markets.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

For first class degree classification students need to have bachelors degree with grade value of 3.5/4.0; For 2:1 degree classification students need to have grade average value of 3.0/4.0 and for 2:2 degree classification students need to have grade average value of 2.5/4.0 are considered. You will need to achieve an Overall Band score of at least 6.0*, with at least 5.0 in each of the four sub-tests (speaking, listening, reading, writing) or 5.5 in each of the sub-tests if you require a Tier 4 visa.

For international students

The usual entry requirement is: a UK 2:2 degree or its equivalent in any discipline from an approved higher education institution. Equivalent professional qualifications will also be eligible if supported with appropriate practical experience.  If we need evidence of your proficiency in English, you will be required to achieve the following minimum scores in one of these recognised tests: IELTS: 5.5 overall, with no sub-test below 5.0, and successful completion of an additional six week , which must be completed prior to the start of the course; or IELTS: 6.0 overall, with no sub-test less than 5.5; or Internet-based TOEFL: 80 overall, with minimum scores of Listening 17, Reading 18, Speaking 20, Writing 17); or PTE-A (Pearson Test of English-Academic): 55 overall, with no sub-test less than 51.
