What will I learn?

We offer research supervision in a wide range of subdisciplines of English language and linguistics. We welcome projects on any variety of English and are able to supervise the description and analysis of a range of languages. We particularly welcome applications in the areas of: • descriptive grammar (including typological approaches) and/or theoretical syntax • discourse analysis (especially political and media discourse, discourse of identity, corpus linguistic approaches) • language variation and change • morphology, phonology, orthography • pragmatics (including intercultural pragmatics and im/politeness) • semantics, lexicology, (meta)lexicography • stylistics. Entry requirements

For international students

Degree requirements: Youre normally expected to have a Merit (an average of 60percentage overall) in a Masters degree. Subject-specific requirements: Your qualification should be in English language or linguistics or a related subject area. You may also be considered for the degree if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
