What will I learn?

This course gives you the knowledge and understanding of the fundamental doctrines and principles which underpin the law of England, Wales, and Canada. This pathway is recognised and provides a strong foundation to pursue a legal career in all these countries. It also satisfies the academic stage of training for students wishing to study the Bar Course.

The pathway runs alongside our current LLB (Hons) Law(opens in new tab) course, and you'll join students studying that course. Together, you'll study a broad range of core and a choice of optional modules that meet the Bar Council requirements for an English qualifying law degree.

You'll also study two core Canadian modules in Year 2 and Year 3. Through these modules, you'll gain comprehension of the Canadian legal system and constitutional law. This will prepare you for the Canadian National Committee on Accreditation exams to qualify for the Canadian bar. If you don't wish to qualify as a solicitor or barrister, this pathway also enables you to develop key transferable skills for employment outside the law. These are highly respected and sought after in other graduate career destinations in England, Wales, and Canada.

We'll introduce you to a variety of approaches to studying law, including critical studies and problem-based learning. This will enable you to specialise in theoretical aspects of law, while engaging in practical activities. You can also choose to work in our Law Clinic,(opens in new tab) which provides real legal advice on a pro bono basis to members of the public.
