What will I learn?

Our BA Management and Music programme offers a unique opportunity to combine key elements of business management with deep cultural insight and humanities knowledge. You will develop both the theoretical foundations and practical skills needed to succeed in diverse sectors of the global economy, including creative industries, cultural and educational sectors, media, publishing and marketing. This flexible interdisciplinary degree is ideal for students pursuing business careers with a global outlook and for humanities students looking to enhance their academic interests with management expertise. You will be equipped to take on leadership roles across different cultural contexts, including managing multinational offices in Shanghai, Mumbai and Nairobi. This innovative programme reflects SOAS’ distinctive approach, blending business and humanities to prepare graduates to lead with cultural intelligence and awareness in a rapidly changing global economy. The Music component provides students with a comprehensive understanding of musicology, ethnomusicology, and music theory. The curriculum covers essential aspects of musical styles, genres, and practices from around the world, enabling students to explore the cultural significance of music in various societies. Students engage with key themes such as identity, tradition, and modernity in music, examining a wide array of musical forms including traditional, popular, and experimental genres. This component encourages students to reflect on the cultural contexts that shape musical production and reception, fostering a nuanced appreciation of the rich musical heritage and contemporary issues facing diverse musical communities.
