What will I learn?

This course will provide you with in-depth knowledge and critical awareness of theoretical and practical solutions to problems at the forefront of communications and the processing of signals. Communications and signal processing are closely intertwined, and together provide the basis of modern information engineering. Areas of application include: mobile communications (3G/4G/LTE and future 5G), access networks and wireless communication; Communication networks including broadcast and computing communication networks; image processing and robotic vision; audio and video recording; radar and sonar detection; biomedical signal processing; medical imaging; remote sensing; array signal processing and beamforming and space-time communications and processing.

Our MSc in Communications and Signal Processing is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Assessment methods involve the following: Coursework software or hardware deliverable: Individual Research Project; Reports; Oral and poster presentations and Written examinations.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants should hold a Bachelor's degree. The minimum requirement is based on the university's selectivity ranking; from the most competitive we look for a minimum cumulative GPA of 3/4 to 3.25/4 or better. From other mainstream universities we look for a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4 or better. Departments may require a higher grade from particular institutions.

For international students

Students needs to have a minimum requirement of first-class degree in electrical/electronic engineering, or a related subject with a substantial electrical/electronic engineering component. The overall degree grade must be at least 75% overall. All candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency for admission to the College. Higher 7.0 overall (minimum 6.5 in all elements). Students should have TOEFL scores 100 overall (minimum 22 in all elements).
