What will I learn?

Machine learning, sensor networks, and the Internet of Things are key drivers of the latest industrial revolution, known as Industry 4.0. These fast-evolving technologies are creating a major skills gap that must be addressed to meet development and maintenance demands. This specialised MSc in Internet of Things (IoT) with AI is designed to develop experts in building and deploying advanced IoT systems powered by intelligent machine learning algorithms. The programme offers a deep understanding of IoT frameworks, computer networks and security, communication protocols, and data analysis, along with expertise in machine learning techniques, including neural networks, supervised and unsupervised learning, and deep learning. You’ll gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge IoT platforms and machine learning tools, equipping you to design innovative, data-driven solutions for real-world challenges. The course also stresses ethical and secure IoT data management, with a strong focus on privacy, responsible innovation, and regulatory compliance. By combining academic theory with practical exercises, this programme prepares you for diverse roles across industries such as smart urban development, healthcare, and industrial automation. The curriculum also promotes a culture of continuous learning and adaptability, positioning graduates to lead in adopting emerging technologies within their careers, as outlined in the Bristol Futures Curriculum Framework: The programme prepares you to be a leader in your field by fostering an innovative mindset and encouraging you to stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, ensuring continued relevance. (Inspiring and Innovative). The programme integrates knowledge from various academic disciplines, encouraging you to think broadly and draw connections across fields, thereby developing both hard and soft skills and promoting lifelong learning. (Intellectually Stimulating, and Disciplinary and Interdisciplinary). The curriculum includes hands-on projects that enable you to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, gaining valuable insights and experience directly relevant to your future career. Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants will typically need an upper second-class honours degree or an international equivalent in one of the following subjects: Artificial Intelligence, Communications Engineering, Computer Networks, Computer Science and Technologies, Computer Systems Engineering, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Information and Communications Technologies, Information Engineering, Microelectronic Engineering, or Telecommunications. Other Engineering and numerate Science degrees may also be considered where a UK minimum score of 60% (or international equivalent) is achieved in five modules from the following: Analog Electronic Circuits, Communication Networks, Computer Programming, Digital Electronics Circuits, Digital Signal Processing, Electromagnetic Fields and Waves, Electronic Circuits, Internet Technology, Microelectronics, Microprocessors, Principles of Communications, Semiconductor Devices, or Signals and Systems. Unfortunately, applicants with an Engineering background in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering will not be considered suitable for this programme. If applicants are currently completing a degree, it is understood that their final grade may be higher than the interim grades or module/unit grades achieved during their studies to date. Applications may still be considered if interim grades are currently slightly lower than the programmes entry requirements, and an aspirational offer may be made. However, such an offer would be at the standard level, meaning applicants would still need to achieve the standard entry requirements by the end of their degree, while specific module requirements would continue to apply.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
