What will I learn?

The University of Brighton has a long-established reputation for museum studies and is the home of both the university's internationally significant Design Archives and the Screen Archive South East. Scholarship includes theoretical and applied approaches, from archival investigations into institutions, exhibitions and collections, and their contemporary and historic significance, to contemporary digital heritage and mobile access projects, to interventions in collections by practice-led research artists and designers. PhD supervision for museum and exhibition studies research may also include the university's artists, curators, designers and photographers whose own exhibitions have formed integral elements of their research.

Entry requirements

For international students

The entry requirements for the PhD are:a recognised Masters degree with a significant research component or similar qualification which is regarded by the University of Brighton as being equivalent and relevantor substantial appropriate research or professional experience at postgraduate level which resulted in published work, written reports or other appropriate evidence of accomplishment. An application made by someone with this experience will be considered on its merits and will normally require independent academic referencesor, unless a school exercises their right to specify more stringent entry requirements, we may consider a first or upper second honours degree or other qualification which is regarded by the University of Brighton as being equivalent and relevant.
