What will I learn?

We are a multi-disciplinary research group covering a broad spectrum of volcanological expertise comprising volcano seismology, ground deformation, geochemistry and petrology, and gas emissions. Full description The main focus of the Volcanology group is to combine several research themes to understand the production, evolution and eruption of magma. o Seismic research focuses on the identification and separation of volcanic seismic signals and their attribution to distinct volcanic processes such as magma ascent, pressurisation and magma extrusion. o Petrological and geochemical work allows us to determine the magma history, giving insights into how eruptions occur and magma is generated. o Deformation studies allow us to remotely monitor eruptions and magma movements within the crust, while gas studies are used to quantify rates and fluxes of gas emissions during both passive and active volcanic degassing. We have opportunities for prospective postgraduate researchers across a broad spectrum of volcanological expertise. Find out more about our research and expertise.
