What will I learn?

Become a compassionate, evidence‑based physiotherapist, graduating work‑ready for modern practice across NHS, private and community settings, learning through hands‑on clinical skills teaching, simulation and placements.Physiotherapy is a science‑based profession that helps people improve movement, function and quality of life through exercise, education, advice and hands‑on clinical practice. Our BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree is designed to develop autonomous, reflective practitioners who put people at the heart of care and who are ready for the breadth of modern employment opportunities. You’ll build strong foundations in human movement, assessment and clinical reasoning, while developing the professional skills you need to practise safely and inclusively: communication, consent, safeguarding, ethics and reflective practice. Throughout the course you will learn to manage musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and neurological presentations, and you’ll develop confidence in promoting health and supporting people living with long‑term conditions. What makes this course distinctive is its deliberate preparation for both NHS and non‑NHS routes. Alongside traditional placement learning, the course is designed to make greater use of private practice, community and student‑led clinical services, reflecting the changing landscape of physiotherapy practice. You’ll also learn alongside students from other health disciplines at HSU, strengthening your ability to work effectively in multi‑professional teams.**What you will learn**Across three years you will develop the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours expected of a contemporary physiotherapist. You will learn to:• Assess movement and function, gather histories and apply clinical reasoning to inform safe, person‑centred plans.• Use evidence‑based approaches to rehabilitation, therapeutic exercise and manual techniques (where appropriate), adapting interventions to individual goals and contexts.• Work confidently across key areas of practice including musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory/respiratory and neurological physiotherapy, and support people living with long‑term conditions.• Communicate effectively, educate and motivate people to be active partners in their care, and work ethically with equality, diversity and inclusion at the forefront.• Apply research evidence, undertake enquiry and develop leadership and management skills that support service improvement and lifelong learning.\\**Practice-based learning**Practice‑based learning is a core part of physiotherapy education. Placements will give you supervised opportunities to apply what you learn in real‑world settings. Our approach is designed to broaden your experience beyond a single sector. Alongside placements with established providers, we will develop opportunities in private practice and community settings, and through student‑led physiotherapy services aligned to local need. This includes working relationships with local partners and services across Dorset.\\**Teaching facilities**Students will have access to:* AI‑enabled simulated ward environment and clinical skills spaces (including physical condition simulation equipment).* Digital Anatomage Table for anatomy and clinical learning.* Prosection laboratory / anatomy learning facilities.* On‑site clinics and treatment spaces to support applied learning and patient‑centred care.* Clinical imaging facilities (including digital X‑ray suite, ultrasound and open upright MRI) to support multidisciplinary learning.* Specialist rehabilitation and exercise spaces for therapeutic exercise and performance‑informed practice.* Library and digital learning resources to support evidence‑based practice and academic skills development.\This course is currently subject to approval and accreditation from the Health and Care Professions Cou
