What will I learn?

Psychologists explore behaviour – the ways our minds work, how we think and interact with the world, and why we react in the ways we do.  Our course covers the fundamental and essential skills required for further psychology study. These include academic writing and reading skills, personal development and reflection, research and analytical skills, introduction to research and practice across a variety of areas of psychology, and a critical understanding and application of core psychological theories to real-world issues. Thereby, equipping you with knowledge and skills to progress on to degree-level study.The course aims to build a sense of community among students and staff, develop your confidence, and help you take a formidable step in your education and future career. At the end of your foundation year, you’ll have the option to stay on the BSc (Hons) Psychology course or transfer to BSc (Hons) Forensic Psychology, BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling and Psychotherapy, BSc (Hons) Psychology with Neuroscience or BSc (Hons) Educational Psychology for a more specialised graduate degree. **Features and benefits**- **Progress into degree-level study**- You'll be able to progress onto the BPS-accredited BSc Psychology (or Forensic/Counselling/Education routes) after passing Foundation Year, thereby, enriching your education and career prospects. - **Accredited course**- Our BSc courses are accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS)- **Teaching expertise**- You’re taught by a large and diverse teaching team, with specialist lecturers from a wide range of psychology specialisms such as forensic, counselling, clinical, health, sport, educational, and neuroscience.- **Enhanced student support**- We strongly believe in enhancing student wellbeing. You’ll have a personal tutor, and the programme support tutors will also work closely with you throughout the course. - **Outstanding facilities**- You’ll have access to our specialist facilities for psychology demonstration and practice, which includes EEG and fNIRS for brain imaging, and TMS and tDCS for non-invasive brain stimulation. In addition, you will have access to experimental testing laboratories, including software for running and analysing studies in cognitive neuroscience, and systems for eye-tracking and for measuring physiological responses.- **Rise Programme**- Go beyond your curriculum and engage with Rise and its unique skills-based workshops and projects. Gain additional credits and enhance your CV.- **Study Abroad Year**- Immerse yourself in a vibrant culture at one of our partner universities in Spain, Italy, Sweden, Malaysia, USA, Canada or Australia. This opportunity is available after the completion of third year and gives you a global perspective on psychology. - **Placement Year**- The placement year, available after third year, offers the chance to gain hands-on work experience in a professional setting, and apply the knowledge gained during your degree to real-world work situations. You’ll develop your transferable skills and network whilst helping you to stand out to potential employers in future job applications.
