What will I learn?

The Associate in Arts degree in art is for students who may wish to transfer to a college or university to pursue a bachelor of arts in fields such as fine arts, art education or art history. Course offerings present art students with a broad and rounded education, including instruction in art history, drawing, printmaking, painting, digital art, sculpture, ceramics and photography. Art students will have multiple opportunities to display their work in the campus galleries as well as curate and host events, giving them experience and insight into gallery practices.

This pathway is for students who want to pursue a four-year college/university degree in such fields as fine arts, art education, art history, and design. The track offers foundation courses in studio skills and studio methods. Major studies include design, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, photography, and graphic art. Depending upon personal development, students may choose to work in a variety of art media or concentrate in a specialized area.

Entry requirements

For international students

To be eligible for admission to an associate degree program at HCC, applicants must have the equivalent of one of the following: high school equivalency certificate (GED), Associate or higher degree, standard high school diploma.

English Proficiency

  • TOEFL score of 61 (iBT) or higher
  • IELTS academic overall band score of 5.5 or higher
  • iTEP academic score of 4.0 or higher
  • STEP Eiken minimum score of Grade 2A or higher
  • Pearson PTE academic minimum score of 46 or higher
  • Cambridge English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency, minimum score of 165 or higher
  • GTEC CBT score of 1051 or higher; new GTEC unified score of 1075 or higher
  • Duolingo English Test score of 95 or higher
  • Completion of Kaplan High-Intermediate Level
