What will I learn?

The American Sign Language and Interpreter Training program within the department of Languages & Philosophy SAC is designed to provide quality ASL and interpreter education with a comprehensive series of classes including, but not limited to ASL, Deaf culture, and the interpreting process. The department strives to provide an environment where students become fully prepared to work as Deaf Support Specialists and interpreters for members of this unique population. Our Deaf Support Specialist A.A.S. prepares students to graduate with a degree that will move them directly into the workforce as advocates, members of educational teams, and more. The Interpreting A.A.S. can be taken after acquiring the DSS A.A.S. to pursue an exciting career as an Interpreter for the Deaf. As an interpreting student, you'll gain the expertise required to facilitate communication between Deaf and hearing individuals. The program covers ASL, the interpreting process, the interpreting profession, Deaf culture, and various specialized interpreting settings.
