The Fire Science / Fire Fighting with an Emphasis in Homeland Security program reflects the assessed needs of the community for careers in the fire service and the need for trained professionals in disaster preparedness. The need for disaster preparedness has been magnified by the added threat of a terrorist attack using weapons of mass destruction. The curricula are designed to prepare students for initial career preparation, career development, and for foundations leading to university transfer credit. The curricula of the Fire Science / Fire Fighting with an Emphasis in Homeland Security Program meets or exceeds the standards established by the National Fire Academy-Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) committee. San Antonio College's Fire Science program prepares you to advance in your career in fire service. The program builds on SAC’s Fire Academy, which prepares you for a career as an entry-level firefighter, by offering two associate degree options: Fire Service Leadership or Fire Science/Fire Fighting with an Emphasis in Homeland Security.
