What will I learn?

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Vision Care Technology will provide students with the skills needed to be successful in the field of Ophthalmology. Ophthalmology specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases and disorders of the eye. The Vision Care Technology program provides technical training in the field of Ophthalmology and Optometry. Skills will include but are not limited to patient history, vision assessment, manifest refractions (plus and minus cylinder), color vision, eye muscle assessments, the field of vision, A-Scans, ophthalmic photography, and surgical skills. Perform ophthalmic assistant-level tasks safely and accurately defined by national certification and Accreditation standards. Students must communicate and collaborate effectively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Students model professionalism and ethical behaviors in their commitment to excellence and Continuing professional development in the healthcare environment. Performs administrative duties of an ophthalmic assistant. Performs testing to evaluate eye movements and binocular functions. Measure visual acuity and visual fields.Perform surgical scrub, change gloves and gown, monitor sterile field during minor and major eye surgery, understands and practices aseptic technique.
