What will I learn?

The mission of the Department of Mathematics is to provide students with an understanding of mathematical knowledge, methods, and analytical skills needed to pursue advanced degrees or careers requiring expertise in mathematics. Both a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in mathematics are offered and provide the student with a sound foundation in mathematics. The B.A. program encourages the study of languages, whereas the B.S. program emphasizes supporting study in the physical sciences and computer science.Students who complete the undergraduate program in mathematics or applied mathematics will:Demonstrate the ability to apply algebraic, geometric, calculus and higher-order thinking, and statistical methods to modeling and solving real-world problems.Use mathematical reasoning skills and formal logic to develop convincing mathematical arguments.Use computational tools to enhance mathematical thinking and understanding, to solve mathematical problems, and to judge the reasonableness of the results.
