What will I learn?

The German Language and Linguistics concentration of the German BA offers a unique program which combines studies in linguistics and advanced-level studies in German and is intended for students who wish to pursue the study of linguistics as well as achieve advanced-level proficiency and gain linguistic understanding of German. Majors in this concentration develop appreciation of general properties of language in general and German in particular, and develop competence in linguistic analysis of German. What will I learn?As a German major, you’ll spend a lot of your time in small classes, with plenty of opportunities to practice speaking and work closely with your classmates and teachers. This program is designed to make you proficient in understanding, speaking, reading and writing German. In addition, you’ll gain knowledge and insight about German culture, which gives you an advantage as you’re preparing to work as a teacher, translator and in other careers.

If you have an above-average academic record and have taken challenging courses in high school that prepare you to succeed at university. UB uses a 4.0 grading scale, and we expect applicants to have the equivalent of a 3.0 on that scale. That is the same as a grade of B, or 83 on a 100-point scale.
