What will I learn?

Develop your storytelling and strategic communication skills and prepare to educate the students of tomorrow. UNT's Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a Journalism Teacher Certification combines courses offered through the Mayborn School and the College of Education to prepare students to teach basic journalism courses and supervise secondary school newspapers, yearbooks, magazines, radio and television stations and online media. Students learn about the issues unique to teaching and reporting in grade 8-12 environments. Upon completion of this program, students will be prepared to sit for the certification examinations in journalism.Developed in close partnership with industry, the Mayborn School of Journalism curriculum gives students broad and diverse skills for work in multiple media platforms. Students develop the skills needed to analyze, evaluate and inform a global audience, as well as to consider the ethical implications of mass communication and its impact in today's world. Mayborn students have access to multimedia labs featuring state-of-the-art computers, software and video equipment. The school emphasizes curriculum and career advising and mentoring by professionally trained faculty and staff.Students select courses from six journalism concentrations and receive comprehensive instruction from faculty with extensive professional experience in broadcast, print, digital news, advertising and public relations.Courses prepare you for a career teaching 8-12 level students in a variety of areas, including yearbook, newspaper, broadcast, news production, copywriting, producing and all other areas of high school journalism. You will gain practical field experience through a practical internship, as well as student teaching.

Entry requirements

For international students

Beginning freshman from international high school:- Graduation from a high school recognized by the home country ministry of education, Official transcripts/diplomas (in native language and English) showing all courses and marks of final three years of secondary school Students with a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.25 or higher are guaranteed admission to UNT. Students' GPAs will be standardized on a 4.0 GPA scale once transcripts are submitted. Beginning freshman from U.S. high school:- Minimum of three years and graduation from an accredited high school in the U.S., Official transcripts, showing rank in class through at least junior year, plus graduation date, U.S. graduates only. Send SAT or ACT scores
