What will I learn?

Psychologists explore the causes and consequences of human behavior: studying animal models with neuroscience techniques, how parenting and interpersonal relationships affect people’s well-being, how social contexts shape physical health, and more. They gain practical experience with research, statistics, communication, and critical thinking. Psychology majors at Miami receive sound liberal arts training, which is good preparation for many different careers or areas of graduate study. The core curriculum surveys the methods and findings of a variety of areas in psychology. You may individualize your program by choosing courses that are especially recommended for your career goals. This flexibility provides excellent training for careers in mental health, school psychology, social work, parole/probation, business, industry, civil service, government, and personnel work.Majoring in psychology will help you gain skills that will be useful to you no matter what career you pursue. Employers want people who have: written communication skills, problem-solving skills, analytic/quantitative skills, leadership and mentoring skills, and teamwork skills. A major in psychology will help you develop these skill sets, which you can take anywhere.

Entry requirements

For international students

Basic requirements for admission as an international student to a bachelor's degree program include the following: Completion of formal secondary education in a pre-university curriculum. Completion must include the awarding of a diploma or the issuance of a leaving certificate or matriculation certificate generally recognized as the educational qualification necessary for admission to higher studies. English language ability at a level sufficient to undertake a full course of study. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) scores (if applicable). International students are not required to provide an ACT or SAT score, but they may use the ACT or SAT to satisfy English language proficiency requirements. Copy of Passport or National ID card. All international applicants and international students who are visa holders in the US must also provide a copy of their current visa or immigration status.
