What will I learn?

This interdisciplinary major allows students to study the history, politics, language, literature, and culture of Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia, broadly defined as the territory of the former Soviet republics and their sphere of influence, from medieval times to today. Drawing from a range of disciplines and approaches, students have the opportunity to explore issues of political, social, and regional identity and cultural diversity, as well as official and popular culture. Majors may choose to participate in the Dawisha Fellows program sponsored by the Havighurst Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies Cybersecurity, US-Russia tension, cryptocurrency, hackers, oil prices, and expanding business in the former USSR... all mean studying Russian is a good way to make yourself more employable. A major in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies lets you study Russian alongside the politics, history, literature, and anthropology of countries stretching from Europe to the Pacific.A degree in Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies can help you land a job with the Department of State, the military, the intelligence community, the United Nations, Peace Corps, work with the Russian-speaking community in the US, or a position in consulting. Our graduates also attend law school and graduate programs in Russian studies.

Entry requirements

For international students

Basic requirements for admission as an international student to a bachelor's degree program include the following: Completion of formal secondary education in a pre-university curriculum. Completion must include the awarding of a diploma or the issuance of a leaving certificate or matriculation certificate generally recognized as the educational qualification necessary for admission to higher studies. English language ability at a level sufficient to undertake a full course of study. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) scores (if applicable). International students are not required to provide an ACT or SAT score, but they may use the ACT or SAT to satisfy English language proficiency requirements. Copy of Passport or National ID card. All international applicants and international students who are visa holders in the US must also provide a copy of their current visa or immigration status.
