What will I learn?

Breathing. It’s one of those involuntary functions our bodies take care of automatically. As a respiratory therapist, you will evaluate, treat, rehabilitate, and educate patients with cardiopulmonary disease. You will work with patients of all ages from premature infants to the elderly. As a student, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in healthcare facilities throughout central Indiana. UIndy is one of three central Indiana universities to join IU Health to form the Indiana Respiratory Therapy Education Consortium which offers a baccalaureate degree in Respiratory Therapy.ADVANTAGESTwo years of prerequisite courses on the Uindy campus are followed by two years of professional studies at IU Health Methodist Hospital.Hands-on learning of diagnostic and therapeutic proceduresDevelopment of critical thinking and problem solving skillsOver 1000 hours of clinical experience at healthcare facilities throughout central IndianaAccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)Graduate success on credentialing examinations offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) consistently exceeds the national averageCompletion of the examinations offered by the NBRC allows the graduate to use nationally recognized credentials and to apply for licensure in the 49 states that require it
