What will I learn?

Hone your design and tech skills and learn how to craft the behind-the-scenes magic that makes theatre and film possible. The emphasis on design & technology prepares students to work professionally in the areas of scenic, lighting, sound, props and costume design, stage management, scenic construction, and other areas of theatre production. The Department of Dance & Theatre is part of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at UNT. The diverse curriculum offers breadth and depth in academics and performance.The theatre program offers a selection of core theatre courses, encompassing various aspects of theatre. After completing the core in each concentration, the student's subsequent coursework is customized. The student can continue to study a broad general degree, or to choose to specialize in performance, design/tech, or theatre education. Our faculty members are outstanding teachers as well as active professionals and renowned researchers. They include an Emmy nominee, a noted Edward Albee scholar and a recipient of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for costume design. We sponsor two student organizations - the Drama Lab and the Alpha Psi Omega national honor society - that provide performance and networking opportunities. Our facilities include:Students are often offered performance and design opportunities as part of outside professional projects of the faculty and are able to audition for local theatre groups. UNT has several student organizations for students to network and further hone their skills and craft.

Entry requirements

For international students

Beginning freshman from international high school:- Graduation from a high school recognized by the home country ministry of education, Official transcripts/diplomas (in native language and English) showing all courses and marks of final three years of secondary school Students with a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.25 or higher are guaranteed admission to UNT. Students' GPAs will be standardized on a 4.0 GPA scale once transcripts are submitted. Beginning freshman from U.S. high school:- Minimum of three years and graduation from an accredited high school in the U.S., Official transcripts, showing rank in class through at least junior year, plus graduation date, U.S. graduates only. Send SAT or ACT scores
