What will I learn?

The BFA in Collaborative Arts is a course of study designed for a diverse group of motivated, versatile, curious, and enterprising undergraduate students. Students are required to practice and learn a variety of artistic disciplines-to experience different forms in collision and collaboration with one another-on their way to becoming innovative and experimental creators. This BFA has interdisciplinarity at its core and pushes students out of their comfort zone to encounter subjects and ways of working that are new and challenging. Collaborative Arts students are expected to be creative makers and critical thinkers: cutting-edge innovators who are passionate about working in the arts across disciplines. The Collaborative Arts curriculum encourages experimentation and play as much as it emphasizes the interplay of theory and practice. It asks students to consider larger themes and ideas while gaining hands-on multi-disciplinary training. As students progress through the BFA they will experience the challenges of vastly disparate genres, creative practices and forms of expression. They will emerge with their own set of skills as well as the confidence and intellectual context to exploit these skills as the next generation of multi-and inter-disciplinary artists. The BFA in Collaborative Arts provides students the opportunity to collaborate with fellow artists across different disciplines and perspectives to gain competency in a range of arts disciplines and to apply their skills in those disciplines to multi- and interdisciplinary projects to study and develop work at NYU global sites to gain a global perspective of history and theory of the performing, cinematic and emerging media arts and to develop the skills needed to be successful self producers. https://tisch.nyu.edu/collaborative-arts.
