Large enough to offer you rewarding performance opportunities, the department is also small enough to provide you with a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. You have the opportunity to work with faculty who are nationally and internationally renowned artists and music scholars. The program also leads you toward completing an Oklahoma State Teacher's Certificate.

Students graduate from OSU prepared to be successful in a wide variety of musical careers that include performance, teaching, working in the music industry, and beyond. Our graduates have pursued successful careers in a variety of fields: Teaching in public schools; University positions as faculty and conductors; Professional artists; Music industry/commercial artist; Music Therapist; Concert Hall Manager; Symphony Manager; Music Critic; Instrument Repair Technician; Piano Tuner/Technician; Music Librarian; Recording Industry Technician.


Music Education majors in The Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music have ample opportunities to hone their skills and broaden their horizons through things such as: Participation in bands, choirs and/or orchestra; Interaction with renowned guest artists and clinicians; One-on-one instruction with private artist-teachers; Touring opportunities with ensembles; Invited performances at various conventions.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students must have completed a high School GPA 3.0+ (based on a 4.0 scale).

For international students

International students qualify for assured admission if they meet the following criteria: English-language proficiency exams: iBT TOEFL Score: 61+ or IELTS Academic Score 5.5+ and; High School GPA 3.0+ (based on a 4.0 scale). Application deadlines are Fall: June 1, Spring: November 1 and summer: March 1.
