Bachelor of Music - Music Education

USA

What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Music in Music Education is a rigorous degree program that combines the study of music with the art of teaching. Our program focuses on helping our students develop the skills, knowledge, and disposition necessary to become outstanding musicians and inspiring teachers. Within the concentration, we offer two tracks, instrumental music and vocal music. The curriculum for both includes courses in three broad areas: music, music education, and general education. Students in the music education program work closely with experienced, full time faculty members and regularly visit local schools to observe outstanding music teachers in "real life" settings. Upon completion of this program, students can apply for a provisional K-12 Music certification in Michigan, which is also valid in many other states across the country, and can be hired to teach at any level from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Admission to this concentration requires an audition and an interview. A portfolio (essay) is optional.
