What will I learn?

Plant and soil sciences meets society’s need for food, feed, fiber and fuel through the conservation and management of plant and soil resources.

As a plant and soil sciences student at OSU, you will experience in field-based classes, numerous laboratory experiments, non-traditional classroom settings and hands-on learning. Students work alongside faculty in areas such as biotechnology, crop production, environmental remediation, plant breeding and genetics, plant physiology, soil chemistry, soil nutrient management, soil physics, water quality and weed science.

Career paths

The current job market for degree holders in plant and soil sciences remains very strong with current signs pointing to continued growth in the future. Graduates have the opportunity to become part of one of the most rapidly-growing industries in the world, help produce a stable and safe food supply or protect and utilize our nation’s greatest natural resource – soil.

Entry requirements

For international students

High School GPA 3.0+ (based on a 4.0 scale) and English-language proficiency exam scores (one of the following): iBT TOEFL Internet-Based Score 61+; IELTS Academic Score 5.5+; PTE Academic Score 46+; iTEP Academic Score 3.5+, Duolingo English Test Score 95+.

Note: OSU will only accept the Duolingo English Test (DET) results from students beginning Fall 2024.

Application deadline: For applicants currently living in the U.S. - Fall: July 1, Spring: December 1 and Summer: May 1; For applicants not living in the U.S. - Fall: June 1, Spring: November 1 and Summer: March 1.
