What will I learn?

A state-of-the-art facility and committed faculty are behind an Automotive Technology program that sets the standard for the nation. We offer the only Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology in Illinois, and our job placement rate is solid proof of our success. Our graduates are highly recruited by major corporations, suppliers and government agencies for positions in technical product support, management, business operations, training and service engineering. With continuing changes in the automotive industry, our students not only focus on automotive technical courses, but also become involved with business/management, computing and communications. Our innovative faculty emphasize hands-on learning opportunities – taking theoretical applications from the classroom into our service centers.Automotive Technology’s national honors include being a three-time recipient of the Automotive Industry Planning Council’s Award of Excellence – 1991, 1999, and 2005. The award signifies the top automotive program in the nation and could be won by a program only once every five years. The award program was discontinued in 2007, leaving SIU Carbondale as the only university to win the national award three times.
