The Aquatic Biology and Fisheries concentration prepares students to study, manage, and protect freshwater ecosystems such as lakes, rivers, and streams. Students gain hands-on experience applying biological science to real-world challenges including water quality, habitat restoration, fisheries management, and invasive species control. Coursework emphasizes freshwater organisms (microbes, algae, invertebrates, and fish), nutrient dynamics, aquatic ecosystems, and the physical processes that shape freshwater environments. Students also learn applied biological methods such as habitat and water quality assessment, environmental conservation, fisheries management, and water resource planning.
