What will I learn?

The communication sciences and disorders program gives you an in-depth study of speech, language, hearing processes and background orientation about disorders of communication in preparation for a graduate program. We offer you a comprehensive pre-professional background to pursue a career in speech-language pathology and/or audiology. Our curriculum prepares you to apply for graduate school as well as take on positions such as a speech-language pathology assistant and/or an audiology assistant.

Highlights
Freshmen, sophomores and juniors have the opportunity to observe therapy sessions and seniors gain clinical experience.
Students gain research experience in the Phon Farm, Motor Speech Lab, Sociophonetics Lab and the Language Learning Lab.
Opportunity to take courses in American Sign Language, manually coded English and finger spelling.
Opportunity to take courses in Deaf Education and learn about Deaf Culture.
Observe how a certified audiologist tests hearing loss in newborn babies as well as in adults.

Entry requirements

For international students

High School GPA 3.0+ (based on a 4.0 scale) and English-language proficiency exam scores (one of the following): iBT TOEFL Internet-Based Score 61+; IELTS Academic Score 5.5+; PTE Academic Score 46+; iTEP Academic Score 3.5+, Duolingo English Test Score 95+.

Note: OSU will only accept the Duolingo English Test (DET) results from students beginning Fall 2024.

Application deadline: For applicants currently living in the U.S. - Fall: July 1, Spring: December 1 and Summer: May 1; For applicants not living in the U.S. - Fall: June 1, Spring: November 1 and Summer: March 1.
