What will I learn?

Geophysics is a discovery science of the earth and other planets using state-of-the-art technology that integrates geology, mathematics, physics and computer modeling. Geophysicists explore the earth’s natural resources such as oil, gas, minerals and groundwater and detect earthquakes, cavities and contaminant hazards benefitting societal and environmental sustainability.

Highlights
Students gain quantitative and computational skills as well as lab, fi­eld or instrumentation experience through geophysical data collection, processing and analysis.
Internship and career opportunities in geophysics are on the rise with the increasing demand for energy, the protection of the environment and responsible stewardship of natural resources and climate including carbon management solutions.
Our geophysics labs consist of state-of-the-art instruments and facilities.
Geophysics prepares the students for graduate school at nationally and internationally recognized universities.

Entry requirements

For international students

High School GPA 3.0+ (based on a 4.0 scale) and English-language proficiency exam scores (one of the following): iBT TOEFL Internet-Based Score 61+; IELTS Academic Score 5.5+; PTE Academic Score 46+; iTEP Academic Score 3.5+, Duolingo English Test Score 95+.

Note: OSU will only accept the Duolingo English Test (DET) results from students beginning Fall 2024.

Application deadline: For applicants currently living in the U.S. - Fall: July 1, Spring: December 1 and Summer: May 1; For applicants not living in the U.S. - Fall: June 1, Spring: November 1 and Summer: March 1.
