What will I learn?

The Computer Information Systems (CIS) program at The University of Akron offers hands-on training and high-level education for future IT professionals. Taught in modern computer labs, the CIS curriculum allows students to choose a specialization that fits their interests and career goals. Our cybersecurity option - the first of its kind among public universities in Ohio combines courses in computer architecture, programming, networking, cryptography and more to prepare students to assess and manage cybersecurity risks. The computer networking option teaches students how to design, maintain and secure networks for organizations, while also preparing them to earn industry certifications like Cisco Certified Network Associate, Cisco Certified Network Professional and CompTIA. The software development option helps students build the technical skills needed to meet technology demands in business, government, healthcare, education and other industries.
