The Bachelor of Science in Data Science is an interdisciplinary degree program. Courses come from both the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Computer Science & Electrical Engineering. In this program, you’ll take mathematics, statistics and computer science classes. You’ll analyze and mine data. You’ll work with data that is high in volume, velocity and variety. You’ll also build models and computational skills used to reduce and manage large data sets stored in the cloud.
Data Science vs. Data Analytics
The BS in Data Science and BS in Data Analytics are somewhat different. For example, the BS in Data Science is more rooted in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). You’ll take more mathematics and computer science courses in the data science degree than in the data analytics degree. No matter which degree you choose, you’ll develop a unique skill set. Both degrees meet different demands in the current workforce.
