What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mathematics provides theory and training in both applied and core mathematics. Mathematics and statistics provide tools for explanation and analysis in the physical world and in engineering, business and the social sciences. You can use these tools in diverse areas such as planning and evaluating market research, modeling problems in business and finance, developing new educational practices, comparing treatment groups in the biological and social sciences and more.As a Mathematics major, you'll explore a range of math topics, from calculus and linear algebra to differential equations and applied statistics. This program is flexible, allowing you to choose between the General Mathematics option and the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Teaching option if you're considering a future in education.

Entry requirements

For international students

You are considered a first-year student if you have not taken any post-secondary/college coursework. Your application should include your high school or secondary school records, including results from culminating or leaving examinations.

Transcript - Your official school transcript (grades 9-11).

Essay - A personal essay of 250-650 words. Please write your full name on each essay page if submitting by mail.

Recommendation - A letter of recommendation from someone who is familiar with your abilities (a teacher, college counselor, coach, employer, etc.). If using the UMass Lowell web application, please feel free to download the recommendation form (pdf).
