As a nutritional science major, you will be prepared for a career in public health, education, health and wellness, research or industry. With a nutritional science major, you can help people live healthier lives. While in our program, you will explore the various disciplines within the field of nutritional science to turn your passion for health into a fulfilling career. Nutritional science is the secret ingredient that makes food more than just something to eat – it’s the science behind how food powers our bodies, prevents disease and brings communities together. Nutritional science dives into these concepts from the cellular level to the human. You’ll understand how food can help us live long, functional lives and how it can build healthy communities. The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Nutritional Sciences, Dietetics Option provides a deep and varied education that will prepare you for a career in nutrition as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).If you would like to become an RDN, earn your bachelor’s degree from UMass Lowell, a program that prepares you to earn a supervised practice-eligible verification statement from an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics. Upon completion of our program, you will apply to a supervised practice program: Dietetic Internship, Future Education Model Graduate Program, Coordinated Program or Individualized Supervised Practice Pathway.

Entry requirements

For international students

You are considered a first-year student if you have not taken any post-secondary/college coursework. Your application should include your high school or secondary school records, including results from culminating or leaving examinations.

Transcript - Your official school transcript (grades 9-11).

Essay - A personal essay of 250-650 words. Please write your full name on each essay page if submitting by mail.

Recommendation - A letter of recommendation from someone who is familiar with your abilities (a teacher, college counselor, coach, employer, etc.). If using the UMass Lowell web application, please feel free to download the recommendation form (pdf).
