Our Latin Teaching Major prepares students to teach Latin to grades 6–12 through an interdisciplinary blend of language, literature, and history, all grounded in educational best practices. Students will study classical Latin grammar, Roman civilization, and ancient texts in their original language, while also completing coursework in pedagogy and classroom experience required for Indiana licensure. In addition to required courses in educational methods, students seeking a license to teach in the modern foreign languages are required to complete a study abroad program where the target language is spoken. Students in this major will design a program of cultural study in consultation with the Classics faculty.
